Palav Prayer

The 'palav' literally means the 'pallu' of a saree or a dupatta (The end part of a saree or a scarf). The Sindhis end their prayer with a request to the Lord to fill up the 'jholee' or the pallu which they hold in their hand in a symbolic attempt to fill it with the goodies that they have prayed for and which they expect to drop from Heaven at the end of their ritual. I personally think that it is a beautiful visualisation. The fact that this prayer is recited at the end of the Spiritual practice fills it with positive energy. And Positive Energy is very conducive to the fulfillment of desires. Follows the Prayer and its translation:

Jhalan jee mehel athai,
Jhaley vath toon jholeee,
Dyan vaaro Daataa Mahadev aahey,
Palao jekey paayey
tuhinjey dar tey aayaa,
unan joon toon aasoon umedoon pujaayeen,
katey kashta tan jaa,
ain man jaa sabheyee,
Vathee pehenjey hath saan sayen dar lagaayeen
Ehro Naath muhinjo Mahadev aahee,
Mahadev aahey, Bholaanath aahey.
Jhalan jee Mehel atheyee,
jhaley vath toon jholee,
Dyan vaaro Daataa Mahadev aahe.

Which means:

It is time to spread out your jholee (Palav, to receive)
The Giver is Mahadev.
Those who spread out their jholee,
and come to your door-step,
You answer their prayers.
You cure their physical and emotional ailments,
and gently lead them to the right door.
Such is my Lord Mahadev
Such is my Lord Bholaanaath.
It is time to spread out your jholee,
The giver is Mahadev.
