Thought on Om (Aum)
To read my thought on Aum and Chakras, click here. Everyone of us may or may not be familiar with 'mantras'. However we all have heard of the power that 'Om' is supposed to bestow. It is considered the most powerful mantra. It is believed that the vibrating sound of the "Om' encompasses the Universe. Sages claim that if one chants it continuously with a certain technique then one can be put in tune with the Cosmos. Almost all other Sanskrit mantras start with the word "Om'. It is almost like the word 'Om' makes the prayer come alive. "I AM" is the shortest and the most powerful sentence in the English language. Note how close its sound is, to "Om". May I urge you not to use any negative word after it? For e.g.: Do not say I am sick, poor, lonely, afraid, etc. If you must, use the suffix "I feel..." We have all heard that positive affirmations work, so negative ones do too. Specially if it is preceded by the word 'I AM' Repeat after me:
The most powerful tools we have for spiritual growth are our thoughts, visualisation and language. Our thoughts, feelings, words and actions are powerful forms of energy. We are co-creators with God, and the key to accessing mind energy is to remain calm and balanced in all situations. What is willed with strong emotion and love will be created and become reality. In the case of Aum, what looks like 3 is the 'a' sound in Sanskrit, the tail or trunk is the 'u' sound and the dot on the half moon is the nasal sound Together it says 'Aum'. Aum is also a visual, and if you care to interpret it in the following way, it looks like a Ganpati. The lower part of the 3 is the belly, and the 'u' is the trunk, with a tika on top. Patanjali states that the primordial 'Aum' is heard during meditation. Note the word 'heard' not 'chanted' is used. After meditation, with intense concentration upon 'Aum', one reaches a realm where pure silence reigns. It is then that one gets to hear the whir of the vibratory motor 'Aum' that is the constant sound of the Infinite. The Bible states (John 1:1-3). "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.. Hindu Scriptures claim: Aum is representative of the trinity of God ie Brahman, Vishnu and Mahesh. A stands for Creation or Brahman U stands for Preservation or Vishnu M stands for Dissolution or Siva. The Tibetans sacred word is Hum. Muslims say 'Amin', Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Jews and Christians say Amen In the English language 'I AM' is the most powerful word in its dictionary. Note how close all these sacred words are to the 'Aum' Of the Vedas. |
